Good afternoon from Sue Ann, your social media director.
I’ve been to a lot of confusing presentations on SEO (search engine optimization), and many of them make it sound like either rocket science or some sort of magic spell.
Well, those of us renovating homes for resale, looking for buyers, and trying to sell our rehabbed homes all want to be FOUND by people who want to work with us, right? And people find us on search engines.
A woman I used to work with (Allison Smith, at the Pedowitz Group) just published a really helpful blog post that gives all of us some SEO hints that we could immediately take action on. I was happy to see that we do most of the things she recommends, thanks to the training I took at one of the FortuneBuilders conferences. One thing is blogging. Smith asserts:
“The easiest and best way to include new content on your website is through a blog. If you have a blog on your site, and are posting to it at least twice a month, Google will love you. Google treats each blog entry as new content. Blogging doesn’t need to be something where you’re constantly scratching your head for ideas. You can blog about anything.”
And you wonder why we usually have at least two blog posts a week? SEO, baby! All right, here at Hermit Haus Redevelopment, we are actually almost all professional writers, or have been at some point in our careers, so we sort of like to write. Besides that, we are very passionate about investing, rehabbing, and helping others, which leads us to want to share our ideas and practices with our colleagues and clients, current and potential.
The more you get people to your site, the more likely they are to give you a call or, as they say, “shoot you an email.” (I hate that phrase.) And then you can run it all through Google Analytics and make nice charts.
Does your business (whatever it is) have a blog that is easy to find from your website’s homepage? If not, why not? As someone who’s been blogging away since Blogger showed up over a decade ago (I was a semi-famous knitting blogger for about 5 years), I can tell you it’s not hard. Whatever you’re thinking about, someone else will want to read about it. And if it’s not perfect, that’s OK. It’s human.
If you do have a blog, tell us about it. We can link to you either here or on our Facebook page, where over 600 people will see YOUR business. And if you want to get seen by search engines, read the link above and find yourself a web host that helps you out with all those meta tags, alt-tags and whatnot. It’s just words stuck in the right places. So I say. Now, go like this post on ALL social media, right there on those buttons we put on the post. Why? Because of SEO.
