We all work hard at this business, and no one works harder than our managing partner, Lee. Since he’s been spending most of his time at our ranch north of Cameron, Texas, he’s been working from home. Even when he works in his “home office,” it’s easy to get distracted there. Dogs bark every time a tractor goes by, calves escape and have to be tucked back into their pastures, the dude with the feral pigs for sale comes by with a load of destructive squealers…rural life.
We have mentioned a few times that Sue Ann and Lee bought some property in the “city” of Cameron, with a nice old house to turn into an office for their Hermits’ Rest Enterprises work (things they own outside of Hermit Haus Redevelopment). It took a while, but it’s finally set up to where actual work can be done. There’s internet, lights, desks (nice ones), and all the various things you need in order to actually get work done. Of course, that includes a coffee maker.
Lee’s been working regular hours there for a week or so, and he reports that he is much more able to focus on work without the home distractions. He’s sure getting a lot done for our business!
Friday was the first day I worked from the new office, myself. I have a nice home office at the ranch, but I can fit a bigger monitor in town, and we have real wireless, not a tether to my phone. Feels like such a luxury. I can now concentrate as well on my 9-5 job as well as I can in my Austin office, and I don’t worry about how much uploading and downloading I do (which is a lot). (Bonus: if I get stuck on something I can go outside and pull weeds, which clears the roadblocks right up.)
Lee found us some really lovely desks at a used office supply store. I have a computer credenza, and he has one of those AND a huge desk. The details on these desks are beautiful. I feel quite fancy typing away. More important, I can easily work on blogs, our website, and our Facebook posts without waiting for my phone to decide to connect to the computer. Working efficiently like that makes it much more pleasant when you have two jobs you love, as in my case, or a BIG job, as in Lee’s case where he manages all our financial stuff!
This weekend we are off looking at more houses to consider, and next week we close on the latest purchase. Time to make money!
Let us know if you have any questions, want to be part of our team, or know of a property we might be interested in (512-807-8777 or info at hermithaus dot com). One house we are looking at this weekend came via a recommendation from a friend who’s keeping an eye on her neighborhood!
