When you renovate a house for resale, you usually are very careful to select neutral colors that appeal to the broadest popular audience. That’s why you see so many gray interiors with gleaming white kitchens. That’s what’s popular right now, though I’m sure someday it will look as horrible as brown wood cabinets with laminate counters look to buyers today. And walls today seem to be nothing but various shades of “crisp white.” Actually, it’s been hard to find color at all in the past couple of years—even the beloved “pops of color” are getting fewer and fewer.
For the Bobcat Lair, we are taking a little liberty with the gray on white theme, since we do plan to live there for a few years before finding another homestead to renovate. I decided to bite the bullet and put in gray cabinets and some gray walls, assuming that will still work in a few years. And I am tempering the gray with a lot of neutral cream, which even Joanna Gaines would like, I’m sure.
But, we are going bold with our pops of color, and most rooms have colorful accent walls. The main living area will have a gray wall that matches the cabinets, which you can see in the photo here. It should all be painted the next time I drop by.
