I may have mentioned that I got a subscription to Lynda.com, so I could take some classes to improve the online presence for Hermit Haus Redevelopment, get us some houses to renovate, and find us investors. I got a lot out of their introductory WordPress class, and I highly recommend that. Even though I knew a lot of the content already, I did get some useful hints.
Now I’m taking an online marketing class, again, a topic I know a good deal about, but am aware that I have gaps in my knowledge, even after doing websites since 1993 (yep, the first site I made didn’t even have images, because the World Wide Web didn’t support them yet). Things change in nearly a quarter century, though, so we all need to keep up with what’s new and changed.
It’s actually pretty interesting to see how online marketing techniques and systems that worked a couple of years ago are now totally passé. Does anyone use banner ads today? Nope. But I sure made a lot of them in the past! My guess is that I’ll have to keep taking new classes in order to just keep up with my younger colleagues who are more immersed in today’s technology. I mean, heck, I never even took ANY marketing class in school; I just learned from my coworkers.
