My sweet potato harvest, hardening off too sweeten up. Just like little housing deals.
Tonight it’s supposed to freeze out here in the middle of Texas, so I harvested the last of the green tomatoes, some basil, one yellow bell pepper, and these. I planted three sweet potatoes that had sprouted. Looking at my harvest made me all philosophical about our real estate business.
You see, one of those potatoes produces those honking big, fat, delicious-looking tubers. One of the potatoes produced those small, slender guys, and one…well, if it produced anything I couldn’t find it. I couldn’t even find the original one I’d planted.
It reminds me of working with all these houses and “deals.” Sometimes you really make the big bucks, and you feel all like Tarek and Christina on Flip or Flop. Woo hoo! Sometimes you make a little profit, and you think, well, we’ll keep on trying and the next deal will be better. And then there are the times when you end up with nothing. Or worse, lose your original sweet potato along with the deal.
Sure, you have to sow good seed to reap a good harvest. But sometimes it’s beyond your control. I hope you keep on planting your own seeds, work out deals, do your job, sell your house for what you need…whatever your goal is. Just keep trying. That’s what we’re doing!
