For quite some time now, Lee has been spending a large chunk of his time doing the bookkeeping and record keeping for our company. This means that he hasn’t had as much time as he would like to do what he’s best at, which is working with investors and people with property leads. He really wants to spend more time on finding partnerships and exciting properties to work on, especially evaluating leads. But, bills have to be paid, records must be updated, and progress on our goals must be tracked!
We (Lee and Sue Ann) also have our own business, Hermits’ Rest Enterprises, where we own a number of other properties and manage rentals. This all needs tracking, too. There are a LOT of property tax bills to pay, issues to manage, and folks to talk to. This is the business where we have an office in an old house in Cameron, Texas for, where Lee and I often work.
For months now, the front office has been empty. A couple of months ago, we found a great person who agreed to do some of our work part time, moving to full time. But the day before that person was scheduled to start, a better offer (with full benefits) came through. We were happy for that great opportunity, so wished our potential employee well.
I kept thinking, hmm, who in this little town might be a good fit for us? They need to be reliable and pretty good with numbers. I kept thinking of one person I knew on Facebook and the local community theater (of which we are a sponsor!), but she had a job. So I kept thinking.
Then, one day last week, I read she had moved on from her previous job. In about 30 seconds I’d already reached out to her. She and Lee talked over lunch last weekend, and everything went well. As of April 18, we have Mandi on our team! She’s a great fit for us, with lots of experience with the kind of data we maintain and a good head for details. She also has a fun sense of humor and is good with people, so she’ll be great at answering the phone when we get all that set up (though currently Carol takes all our Hermit Haus Redevelopment calls, and there’s no plan to change that!). If you visit us at our office on Travis in Cameron, look for Mandi as she gets all oriented! She’ll be helping out with all our businesses, and maybe even a little with Andress & 3, who share our building with us.
It’s great to know that our company is doing well enough to grow and support a community by providing jobs. That’s part of our mission! Welcome to Mandi!
