I got to spend some time with Anita at our Taylor house on Wednesday the 18th. I really love the way the house is coming along. Anita is the project manager and paired with our contractor Chris, they have made an outstanding team. The house looks so great already, and they are only getting started. Anita has made decisions to keep several things that make the house unique and really make it stand out. Almost a historic look to me. There are some points that are brand new, and some that are original and just have some fresh paint.
The reason that I got to spend Wednesday with Anita in Taylor was to do some cleaning on the shower in the apartment outside. The shower is a wet room and it was obvious that at some point was the home of some messy critters. So, this is where all of my nasty bathroom cleaning expertise from years of convenience store bathrooms comes in!
I will even share my secret with you all! I used the juice from 1 lemon and sprinkled some vinegar on the floor, added just a little water, and used a stiff broom like a brush. I did the floors and walls both like this. Then did a wipe down of the walls with Simple Green and Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. For the final wipe down of the floor, I used Lemon Pine Sol, cleaned the broom out really well, and used it like a stiff mop. Then I did a final rinse of the floors and Voila! She is clean! I am really impressed with this property.
We had Lee’s power washer just in case we needed it, but fortunately, we did not. I should say that the whole room we were in was designed as a wet room and shower, so it wasn’t like we had to worry about wood and carpet being too close. If you follow Hermits’ Rest Enterprises on Facebook, you will have probably seen some pictures that I posted from Taylor already, but I am leaving some here as well, since they aren’t on the Hermit Haus page.
I think someone could totally buy this house, and rent that little apartment to someone and have help with the mortgage. That’s what I would do. Anita has done a lot of work on that little place outside and it will still need some work when she is finished, but it would make a great way to make money while getting your very own house as well.
The house is just off of Main street, real close to downtown, and the neighborhood was quiet besides people mowing and construction noises. Not much traffic at all. The house also boasts 2 garages, one is attached to the apartment, and an outside storage shed that could go either way. If someone really wanted to spend the time and money to fix it up, or just tear it down.
Whoever buys this house is buying something truly unique and beautiful. I was so impressed with Anita’s work on the house and the decisions that she has made, and I was also so impressed with the contractor and the quality of work we are getting from him. I cannot wait to see this house when it is finished!
