Today I’m off to scenic (that’s right, there are mountains) Las Vegas to the yearly FortuneBuilders extravaganza of learning, known as Ignite! (I think the exclamation point is part of the name.)

The Hilton at the Austin airport used to the the base HQ for the Bergstrom Air Force Base. Rumor is that there’s a big old bunker under it. It’s a cool round building, so I’m glad they saved it.
Great Plans
The original plan was for Lee and me to spend last night at the hotel at the Austin airport and celebrate our 9th wedding anniversary in style. Hotels always have nice, quiet restaurants, which he likes. Well, I enjoyed a surprisingly good pasta dish, but was joined by Anita instead of Lee. Poor Lee has been sick for well over a week, including a very nasty throat infection that left him unable to swallow without yelling out in pain. We’d hoped he would be well enough to travel today, but he is not.
Let me tell you, rearranging a trip takes a while. And plane tickets are not transferrable. But, I spent the day on Tuesday rebooking Anita on all the planes, hotels, and venues.
This morning, Anita asked not to go, because she is so worried about finishing the Taylor house (it’s done other than landscaping and a few clean-ups, which is great). She also wasn’t comfortable doing her other work from the hotel in Las Vegas. At least we got to watch Property Brothers together last night! I certainly didn’t want to force anyone to go to a conference, so I sent her back home to the Bobcat Lair.
Here I Am!
So, I’ll be solo at the conference. Any of you fellow FortuneBuilders who are there, look for the short woman with short hair in a red polo shirt, and say HI!
I don’t mind traveling solo, since I’ve done it for work in my current job and did it a lot for my nonprofit position. I just barge in and meet people. Or I go to my room and meditate in blissful silence. However, I’m glad there won’t be any more changes in attendees.
Why Am I Here?
The reason I didn’t just stay home (other than wasting another plane flight) is that I really like these conferences. They have lots and lots of different short sessions to take, on lots of things of interest to real estate redevelopers like us. Last year we learned so many things that we had to give everyone reports.
I hope there are equally many interesting sessions to report on this weekend! But, in the meantime, we have lots to report on our other projects, so stay tuned!
