Meanwhile, literally back at the ranch, the Rattlesnake project near Cameron, Texas is moving along, though perhaps not as quickly as one of us would like. (Guess who? Not me!)

This week, Ryan removed the two windows that were in the kitchen area and replaced them with new/used windows, oriented sideways. Huh? New/used? Sideways?

The windows are “used” because they are the ones we originally installed at the Bobcat Lair, only the City of Austin didn’t think they were good enough, so we had to replace them with even fancier windows. Of course, these double-paned, gas-filled windows are a huge improvement over the single-frame ones with plastic storm shutters that were there before.

They are “sideways” because they are going in the kitchen, and if we installed them with the long side vertical, we would not be able to put kitchen cabinets under them. So, being that we’d rather use “free” windows than pay for new ones, we just turned them sideways. Now Mandi will have expansive views while doing dishes or whatever. In fact, she will have a GREAT view of me and Lee over at the Hermits’ Rest. I better not see binoculars on that counter when it’s done.

Now that the windows are in, Mandi will have the final measurements to send to the guy at Lowe’s do start work on the cabinetry.

Meanwhile, Ryan will be back at work under the house, avoiding any snakes, and moving all the water pipes over to where the new sink and dishwasher will be. That sounds fun. He’ll be moving the electric outlets up higher, too, so they will be above the kitchen cabinets.

The rest of the “new” windows can go in after the plumbing and electrical changes are complete. They will go in normally. And we will have to buy a few new ones, but not too many.

Then, and only then, DRYWALL.
