We are all excited (OK, at least Mandi and I are) that the light fixtures for the Washington house are arriving at the office. They look real good, as they slowly trickle in. The dark bronze is pretty.
Speaking of dark colors, Jennifer and I talked about flooring colors, and while we agreed that something dark is needed to contrast with all the whiteness we are creating, I told her how the dark brown flooring we have at the Bobcat house shows practically every step you take and every bit of dust. So, we’re hoping to find a dark but mottled color, like a wood grain. We’ll see.
The big business of this week has been picking out the granite for the kitchen and bathrooms. Jennifer went to a nice but not overly fancy (reasonably priced) granite place in Temple earlier in the week and picked out some choices that sounded fine to me. But, she wanted a second opinion, so we rode over to check it out in person yesterday. I am not one to turn down a chance to look at fancy rocks.
We agreed on the kitchen granite, which will also be in the laundry room/half bath. It’s a nice, traditional Santa Cecilia of the gray type (if you know your granite, you will know it). We had more trouble with the granite choice for the other two bathrooms, which have to have brown accents, because of the tile that’s already in there from a previous remodeling job and is perfectly good. We went back and forth among a good number of choices, then found one in the remnant section that was perfect: a light granite with a good amount of tan (which does not show up well in the photo, so you’ll just have to believe me). It’s really a good feeling when the one you like best also happens to be the least expensive option. Score!
I did try to pick up a slab of labradorite, but Lee said no, even though it matched my hair (and I already have labradorite counters in my guest bathrooms at our ranch house!). But it sure is pretty.
Cabinets are in, that’s what! I haven’t had a chance to get by the house to get photos, but I’ll try to get some and post a mini-update. I also will have more on the Mystery Neighbors!Hermann says please like and share!
