In a surprise turn of events, we found out that Hermits’ Rest Enterprises, our Cameron branch, was named Business of the Month by the Cameron, Texas Chamber of Commerce. It’s not up on their website yet, but when it is, you’ll find it here. I’ve always been impressed by the group in Cameron, because they make a big effort to support each other and to spread the word about hard-working businesses in the area. We were very happy to hear about the honor, and you know we were pleased, because we stood out in blazing heat for what seemed like forever to get our picture taken for the newsletter, website, and newspaper.
It’s nice that they always bring in some local dignitaries to be in the picture with the business of the month. Our friend Jeremy, of the Chamber Board came, along with Judge Steve Young, who is a great photographer and has better pictures than mine! Of course, our good friend Melanie from the Chamber was there. I don’t know what we’d do without her! We even had a guy from Rockdale come by. The ladies from the bank missed the picture, but we gave many of them a tour of the building and talked up the event venue. Why not?
We got a sign to display on our building. They usually go in windows, but this is the most window-free building I’ve ever owned. So, we put it by the front door, where it will be protected from the sun and any rain we happen to get for the rest of the month. We’re really grateful to have the sign and the acknowledgement of how hard we are trying to make this community better and provide a better life for everyone in this town.
What’s nice is they said that the work we are doing in the town makes a difference, both the houses we work on and the volunteer work we do. That feels good. Now to get those final tweaks to the Washington house done so we can plan out the Nash house. And oh yes, finally get started on some real renovation work on our building here.
