We’ve been enduring delays on the closing of the Washington house, none of which are the fault of either us or the buyers. If a thing could get messed up on the closing, it’s gotten messed up. But, it’s scheduled for Monday, for SURE this time!
The best news is that we got started on fixing up the Nash house. On this one, we’re going from the outside in. The most pressing need was to get rid of all the weed shrubs and baby trees that were not helping the foundation one bit, and to create a berm for better drainage flow around the house. We had to scale down the original fancy plans, but came up with something that would work and be affordable, both.
Cody was put on the task, and he put together a team that showed that house who’s boss! A LOT of hard work went into this exterior demolition.
You can actually SEE the house now, in all its pink-bricked glory. We seem to have a run on pink houses. It’s great to see the house, though. With the branches that were touching the roof gone you get a better idea of how cute it is.
Because the brick is highly textured, Lee doesn’t want to paint it. It needs some repair, though, and there are some spots where it needs to be power washed to get rid of what built up behind the bushes. The roof is in good shape, but the tree leaves have discolored it a bit. We will need to look up how to safely clean the roofing material.
On to the Next Task
My job is to pick colors for the trim, because Lee wants to paint the exterior next. I am at a total loss, other than the safe choice of repainting it white again.
The rest of the neighborhood has some brightly colored Victorian houses and other older homes with colorful trim, so I am thinking something bright would be good. The trim on the Washington house was maroon, which IS a popular color in Cameron (school colors are maroon and silver). I was also thinking of a deep turquoise or something that contrasts.
Post your ideas here! I’d love to see what you think. And yes, I will look on Pinterest…
Come back tomorrow for more demolition mania at The Hermit Haus!Hermann says please like and share!
