Travis 1
Suna’s sister is now living in this house, and liking it very much, especially the huge back yard and nice neighbors.
This house was part of a group of four houses and one warehouse that sit on 7 lots in Cameron, Texas. The house behind the others has been sold. The center house is our company’s office, and we renovated the two houses on either side. This page will go over what we have done with the house closest to downtown.
The Travis 1 house has three bedrooms and one bathroom. The third bedroom is an addition (a very sturdy one). It also has a carport and a detached shed that holds the laundry, water heater and a very un-renovated extra bathroom.
When we purchased the house, a tenant had just left in a big hurry. There was much rodent evidence, including a hole in the floor of one bedroom. There were broken windows in several places. The tenant had left behind astounding amounts of food, dirty clothing, and other filth. We immediately cleaned it, painted it, repaired the windows, and put in new flooring. There are still some repairs to be made, but it’s at least livable now.
What’s Next?
As of October, 2017, we have found a tenant for the house, who happens to be a family member! We needed to finish doing the upgrades (putting in a new bathroom, adding appliances, installing new heating and air conditioning). It turned out the bathroom was moldy and had rotten sub-floors, so that’s being repaired, as well.
Take a tour of early progress on the house with these pictures. Go to the bottom of the page for photos with lighting and appliances.
- The exterior wasn’t too bad when we got it.
- You can see the nice porch. There is a big tree that keeps it cool.
- In process of scraping off the old paint.
- More repair progress.
- We repainted it a color close to the original, but you can tell it’s clean and crisp. We still may paint the porch.
- One thing that needs replacing is the porch light.
- This is the north side of the house looking from our office. Lots of space.
- Back of the house from the fence. Big back yard, all fenced in.
- There are beautiful trees in the back yard.
- Living room. Beautiful old windows. The new floors are in great shape.
- Living room looking toward the front door. All ceiling fans need to be replaced.
- Dining room looking to front of house. At right is door to the hallway. Dining room fixture needs to be replaced.
- Kitchen is small but nice. Appliances must go. We already have some, though they are a mix of black and white.
- The old cabinets are really charming. Ideally, the counter tops would be replaced. We have a sink we can use, already.
- The kitchen window has shelves for plants or pretty things.
- Bathroom sink. It’s fine but needs new fixtures, or could b replaced. We have a very nice mirrored medicine chest that can go in there.
- Icky tub. Must go. Toilet is OK. Floor needs to be replaced.
- There is a big wall of linen closets in the bathroom. Lots of storage.
- This is the front bedroom. It’s a beautiful room because of the many windows. Light fixture to be replaced.
- Rest of front bedroom. The wire is for satellite TV. Brand-new receiver.
- Master bedroom looking toward kitchen. It has no door. Hmm. Two closets, sort of. Newer windows in here. It’s a big room.
- Middle bedroom. Looks SO much better.
- Back door is really safe! It can’t be opened. Must fix.
- Mud room off back door has new glass in it. There is a nice path.
- Closer view of mud room
- The shed. Some volunteer trees that need to be removed. That’s a well next to it.
- Inside of shed. Looks better than it really looks.
- Brand new water heater and washer/dryer hookup. Needs paint and lighting.
- Side of house showing TV receiver.
- Things that need to be cut down.
- The carport shades a car well. It’s not water tight.
- Cute fence gate and old air conditioner.
- Hallway connecting bedrooms and bath.
Final Finished Project
Here we have curtains, light fixtures, air conditioning, and appliances. Still need the new bathroom, and will probably re-do the kitchen soon.
