We had inklings as to why we didn’t have any offers on the Roadrunner house in Bryan. And it wasn’t just because the market is generally slower there.
To confirm our hunches, our agent, Judy, held a real estate open house, where agents come in and critique homes that are for sale (or learn about them to share with their clients). What a great idea!
Sure enough, there were three issues that stood out, and they all had to do with color: the upstairs bedroom color came off as pink, people didn’t like the red trim, and the paint on the brick came out rather ugly.
This is mostly my fault, since I’m the one who picked the colors. The thing is, the main colors looked brown and tan on the color card! Look over there. That looks brown.
We now think that the paint was mixed incorrectly at the store. Sigh. What we wish had happened would have been that the contractor told us the color came out wrong before using up all our paint budget. We caught it in time to change the colors downstairs, but not upstairs or on the exterior.
