I’m having a philosophical moment.

Apparently the barred owl’s call sounds like, “Who cooks for you?” Now I won’t be able to hear it without thinking that in my head.
This evening, Lee was telling me a story about how an owl came out of the woods and circled around him and the dogs while they were out on their sunset walk. It didn’t just fly by, it went around and checked them out again.
He said it was one of the ones we’d had try to take up residence in our ranch house chimney before the house was finished. Those are barred owls, very big and powerful, but silent as they fly. We hear them (and barn owls and screech owls) often in the woods.
The story made me think of how people always have said owls were wise. This one was acting wisely, by circling back and checking out the unfamiliar beings walking around his or her woods. Perhaps the owl was also checking to see if the dogs were small enough to be dinner.
I’m pretty sure our own wisdom gathering is a lot like the owl’s. We often have to address an issue once, thinking about it some, and come back to it again with a different perspective. Being willing to learn from our own observations and experiences, and to try again is what makes us wise. It’s one reason I don’t ever think of deals that don’t work out, deals where we lose money, or contracts where people we work with don’t act as we expect them to as “failures.”
We’d only fail if we didn’t reflect, circle back, and try again.
Thanks, owl, for reminding me that real estate investment is not only about winning and making money, but about learning and gaining the wisdom to keep going.
