It looks a little wonky, because it’s from Google Maps, but here’s the Central Avenue house before. It’s in bad shape.
Some days, the blog posts just write themselves. All I had to do today was drive through Cameron on my way to work, and this post formed itself inside my head.
So, you know I’ve been thinking a lot about restoring properties in Cameron. It’s obvious that many of my neighbors have been thinking about it, as well. Some, though, did not. Here’s a report.
Central Avenue
Someone we know is doing an amazing job on a huge old house near the center of town. The house lost most of its land on one side when the main road through town was made wider, so it would not be the ideal residential property, but it would be an amazing commercial spot. From what I’ve heard, they are planning on retail downstairs and rental upstairs.
You can see from my before and after shots that they have done an amazing job. Broken windows have been replaced, rotting porch columns and trim has been lovingly renovated, and the roof no longer is full of holes. This building will have a long life ahead of it, now that it has gone from huge eyesore to huge asset to the town. We are so happy with the work the owners have been doing.
